Sad to know this...

I try to clear all the data history in my brower (Mozilla)  and try to access in chess.com, and sad to know that our main page is very slow to show-up, it takes a one or couple of minute(s) before it totally load the main page.  The menu and chess.com icon has no problem they load up easily, but the problem is the body of our main page. Maybe you can tweak something in codes, I just observe that the body of main page is loading at the same time not part by part. I'm not good in website programming, I think it is better when text are loaded part by part.

Good news about it when you are already in the site the next time you access chess.com it is fast.

And last observation is, when I post something, it doesn't show up in the recently post in the main page.

This just my observation to help you testing the site but maybe my DSL connection is very slow right now, maybe that's why it react like that.

Hmm, thanks for the valuable information. I am sure Erik will use this information to learn how the site reacts and how to improve it.

However, I have not had any problems loading the main Chess.com page. It loads at normal speed for me so possibly it is something to do with your internet connection or your computer system. On the other hand, maybe I am completely wrong.  Laughing

Anyways, thanks for posting this great information. We always welcome members to post stuff like this to help the Chess.com community!

great question bendcat! the reason for this is site optimization :) when you have the homepage shown hundreds of thousands of times per day and it is fed by dozens of dynamic inputs, it is not practical to have it refresh every milisecond. you have to cache it and just serve the cached html, then refresh every so often. so most parts of the homepage refresh every 5 minutes! this is a happy balance between FRESH and FAST :)
