Same Game - Different Objective

Is there any interest in the following ideas?

  • Queen Chess
    • Description: In a game of normal chess, the objective shifts to protecting your Queen and capturing your opponent's Queen. The King becomes a standard combatant piece (moves/attacks normally but cannot be checked or mated). Checking, checkmating, and stalemating apply exclusively to the Queen. Castling rules apply relative to the Queen's position (e.g., queenside castling moves Queen two squares toward the c-file with the queenside Rook). All other rules (pawn promotion, en passant, etc.) remain standard.
    • FEN Format: rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1
    • Novelty: Transforms the Queen into the "royal" piece, emphasizing Queen-centric tactics over King safety.
  • Religious War Chess
    • Description: On a standard 8x8 board, the objective is to "wipe out the opponent's church" by capturing both of their Bishops. The King and Queen are fully expendable combatants and may be captured without ending the game (no checks or mates on them). All standard chess rules apply otherwise, including pawn promotion (to Bishop allowed, enabling church "rebuilding"). Win occurs upon capturing the opponent's second Bishop.
    • FEN Format: rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1
    • Novelty: Forces aggressive Bishop-hunting, turning minor pieces into high-value targets.
  • Siege Chess
    • Description: Using standard chess setup, the goal is to "take down both of your opponent's castles" by capturing both Rooks. Other pieces, including King and Queen, are unprotected and can be captured without game-ending consequences. Pawn promotion to Rook is allowed and rebuilds a "castle," continuing play. All other rules are normal; win on second Rook capture.
    • FEN Format: rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1
    • Novelty: Shifts focus to Rook control and sieges, with promotions enabling defensive reinforcements.
  • Grand Chess:  12x12 board with six Knights per side; Queen moves one square at a time (like a King); otherwise standard rules. Two ranks of three Knights each side between Bishops and Rooks. I can envisage massive cavalry charges at the start.

In Queen chess, the Queen will have to be nabbed early or, with a clearing board, there will be no way to corner her (if she moves in her normal way).
