School chess club

Hi everyone!

I recently joined the chess club at my high school, and it is clearly evident that I know openings, and general chess strategy/tactics better than everyone but one person.  It seems like most of the people joined just to play for fun, and not really to learn how to play well.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could give everyone advice about opening theory, basic tactics strategies, endgame advice, and generally how to improve their game as a whole?  I want to help the people there, but I'm not sure what things i should tell them that would have the most effect on their playing.  Any help about this situation would be really appreciated.  Thanks.

Hmm... not sure. That has stumped me for a while too.

What I've done so far is to play my standard opening, then tell them the name of the opening (perhaps an interesting name, to catch their attention).

Not sure if it will be perceived as "rude" by your clubmates, though. Try my advice at your own risk.

If the difference in ability is that great follow the tried and tested method.

Play 'em, beat 'em, tell 'em how.

If they actually want to get better they'll be happy for the tips, if not, why are they part of the chess club in the first place?
