Press Ctrl+A to insert an empty variation bracket and then start by adding a text comment via the comment-editor.
I know it's very complicated and by far not intuitive but it's the only possibility I know of.

Thank you for the tip. I have just tested it. Your method is actually less complicated than the way I have found out so far. The only restriction seems to be that it does not work when there are already moves in the variation bracket.
The more complicated way to add a comment later works with "edit -> paste clipboard text as Pgn" and then you can manuelly put the comment at the place you want.
Hi,
I'm trying to put a commentary in front of the first move of a variation, but somehow I can only place it in the main variation or after the first move in the variation.
I know there was a way to do it (at least in some older Scid versions), but I can't remember how it worked.
Could someone tell me how it works in the newest version (Scid 4.6.4), please?
