SCID vs PC

Probably a malformed PGN, there should not be any } after the result.

Why do I get an error message when I click on a pgn game on my desktop that I downloaded from ICC. The game opens up and I get an error message. The message is: "Imported 1 game:(game 1, line 17) Error: Unexpected symbol: 0-1}" The problem is that I checked the 17th move in my game and there was no error--everything was as it should be. This same thing occurs in all games that I open up but sometimes it is the 16th move that the message says is in error. This is not a fatal error since the game opens up anyway and can be played out or copied or whatever. However it is slightly annoying and I was wondering if it can be corrected. Anyone know any thing about this?

Line 17 doesn't mean the 17th move; or I'm pretty sure it doesn't. If you post the text of one of the PGN files here, I might be able to tell you what it is messing up on.

The pieces on my site (if you are the one that posted a comment on my blog, which looks like a pretty good guess) were made (mostly) before SCID vs PC supported sizes above 80x80.  I will get around to making the pieces support larger sizes than that at some point, but it's kind of a pain :).  I will start with the two you requested, though.  In the meantime, all of those pieces look clear as a bell at smaller board sizes, so that is at least one option.

Yeah, I am the one who posted on your blog. You are right, they look better on smaller sizes (had to disable options>>windows>>auto resize board) but size 80 looks a bit small to me maybe bcoz of screen resolution or just that I am not used to it. I will be using size 80 as you suggested for the time being.

I had a little bit of free time so thought that I could make them myself for size 90 and 100 using tutorial posted in the thread but was unable to find source for hansburg chess pieces. Only one I could find was merida that too a ttf that i had to convert to svg. Can you tell me your source for hansburg?

I'm working on fixing Habsburg up for you now.

Ok, you can get the new Habsburg file from:

http://gorgonian.weebly.com/scid-vs-pc.html

It supports 90x90 and 100x100 sizes.  I will update others soon, too.

Below is the error message I got from a particular game and below that is the pgn converted to text.

I don't get any errors.

If the problem is not "Probably a malformed PGN, there should not be any } after the result."

then it may be that "1-0" is being displayed in some fancy font and/or character that *looks* like the asci chars 1-0, but is a dual byte unicode version of them. To verify, open the pgn in a text editor before importing it, and examine it/ do a global substitute of the offending "1-0".

The problem is even more apparent with little 1/2-1/2, making use of the special "½-½", and we should probably code for this special case.

Line 17 of course doesnt refer to move 17, etc.

DrFrank124c

Its interesting that when I open the PGN with Lucas Chess I do not get that error message at all! Anyway that solves my problem, from now on I will open those particular files with Lucas Chess. Thank you for the help.

Here's a build for legacy Macs (made from current subversion) which should run fine on OS X 10.5.8, including G4/G5 cpus.
