what do you need our names for?
Science Project Help

This is true. Asking people for their real names and emails isn't professional and I dont think that you should need real names. A better way to do this would be to visit your local chess club and try conducting some of these experiments. If your school has a chess club, try there as well.

If you need names, pick any you like from the telephone directory. If chess.com players want to tell their real name, they would not be using username.

I am a total beginner so I won't participate (I probably won't get any of them truth be told....hehehe) but I'm quite interested in your project otherwise. I'm quite impressed that it appears that you are actually doing a "study" for your science project. I'd love to see your completed project (I'm a researcher....). Tell me your hypothesis and how you are measuring (your instrument). I'm not trying to quiz you, I'm just quite curious. And if there is any way I can help, let me know. And if you REALLY want me to, I'll try the puzzles but doubt my ability to do them given my skill level. ;)

Have you tried actually showing up to these chess clubs? In my experience conducting meetings face to face FAR increases your chance of getting what you want. Especially since you are young it will be difficult for them to deny you. Not only that, but I'd be willing to bet many of them would be simply interested in your experiment and more than willing to comply.

Alright. I went back and tried. I got the first two beginner puzzles, the mate in one and the mate in two. Couldn't do the rest.
My methods: for the first beginner puzzle: Look for checks. ALL checks. if i see one, can it be adressed and is it mate? Found it.
second beginner puzzle: look for checks. Check escape squares for king. Where can he escape? What squares do I need to cover for mate? I noticed the bishop and said, "aha..." then knew how I could do it since my bishop was guarding the final square on which I could mate.
I hope this helps. Check my page for my name.
Of note, you shouldn't need our names. in a study, participants are generally identified by initials and numbers. For your documentation purposes, you can identify by number (I.e. I was the fifth person to answer?) and should be able to use the pseudonyms here.
