Scored a really cool Chess set
Here is one more, sorry they are not the best images...but only had time for a couple quick snap shots..
If you visit Mexico, you can buy a set in about that price range without a problem. But that looks nicer than the ordinary set you find there. Congrats.
For some 300 bucks is about 30 to them, but truthfully 30 bucks may as well be 300 to me right now.
He has retired, but I understand from my conversation with his friend, that he stills kicks off about 100 games or so a month online. He is in the Urkrane right now, but resides in Sabastapol CA. I agree, it was a steal, but I do have some sense of honor...I told them he could get a LOT more. He only wanted the 30.00, and would not take more.
Someday you can come back and make a bigger donation. For the time being you have a really cool set with some great history! Congratulations!
Can you show some pictures of your Star Wars Chess Set?
Actually, when I have more time, I'll find a pic of it for you online Mine's not in perfect condition ...a couple of the lightsabers broke off (although I still have all of the parts so that the next time I play it I could glue them back together).
That said, the coolest piece, white King Yoda, is in perfect shape I take special care of that one
So, our local school was having a flea market sale to support the kids. Over I go, and see a really neat, old, Myan Indian soap stone chess set for 30.00.
Start to talk to the guy who got the set, turns out it was owned, and donated for the sale by Vladimir Strugatsky. In fact, his father gave him the set....
I asked for verification, and he produced the box it was packaged in, and it was return addressed to the man himself. In additon, did some research, and found he has connections to my little local community, and the gentleman I purchased it from was a personal friend, and business associate....Cool Score thought I would share my good fortune.
