I know

digeri

Yeah Sergey is not too bad at chess. 2900 is nothing to sneeze at.

Irontiger

And how is that that our dear Magnus is still mentioned to be the highest-rated ever, having broken the previous record that dated back to Kasparov, and which is still under 2900 ?

Adding to that that wiki's article mentions a peak rating of 2788 (not nothing, sure, but far from 2906), I demand a source to your claim.

blueemu

That's his Blitz rating. His Standard rating has never passed 2788.

Yes, I know. I was answering Irontiger's request for a source.

My bad. I didn't read correctly Embarassed

Well, I guess it proves blitz ratings are volatile, or blitz events do not attract many masters.

Yeah, IMO Blitz is a completely different game... it's just played with the same equipment.

Some people are better at finding good moves in low time. The knights aren't jumping in u-shapes...

Yeah, Karjakin I believe is 1st in blitz rankings and Carlsen is only 3rd with a puny little 2856 rating. I think Grischuk might've had an even higher peak, I think he's currently 2nd

I think those guys know pretty well how the knights move, even in blitz, at that level...

MrDamonSmith

Yep, Grischuk hit 2923! once. 1. Karjakin 2873. 2. Grischuk 2858. 3. Carlsen 2856 4. Nakamura 2844. 5. Andreikin (who?!) 2824. Currently.
