How are they adjusting the time that's controlled by the server (by chess.com)?

It's not a matter of what its to you, but what it actually is:

Wow. When you say -Period like that, you immediately impose your authority on me. You must be really a cool and awesome guy. When you say something, you MEAN it. And you're probably SERIOUS ABOUT IT TOO.

 This should help.

There are 3 possibilities:

1. Time increment on the game, adding xxx seconds per move.

2. Lag. If you or your opponent has a lag, especially red lag, then it may appear that the time pauses for a while.

3. You are mistaken.

Hi there.

It happend to me yesterday : On my screen, the opponent time went down to zero. I was explecting the message "remi-le-surfeur won on time", but my opponant made a move 1 sec later and the time rised up to 3 sec. I made my move, confused, then it happend again : his time went to zero but he didn't lose !

And like this a third time and then I lost on time... I could not belive it.

Perhaps a lag problem but then, what happend to the time. It cannot expend, the clock is always turning : wether for you, wether for your opponent.

There is something that I didn't get.

By the way : there was no incremental time option : )

i wanted to post something about this and figured i'd search for a related thread before starting a new one.

basically i think it's lame to get additional time on your moves. i'm not familiar with the rules of tournament chess, but does your clock add seconds after each move?

i have played too many games on here where as much as 15 or 30 seconds are added after each move, and this is completely unfair. this basically negates the purpose of the clock.

and i know this sounds pathetic, but i just lost a game because of this reason. my opponent had run out of much of his time, and within a few quick moves had gained 5 minutes back. all it took was for me to compromise my position with a blunder and it all went south from there.

i guess i'll just have to play games that i create myself from now on... this is so lame. i don't try to play for a time advantage, but if i need to rely on one then i'm not going to scoff at it. LAME.

On the time settings, there is a setting that includes "bonus" time that you get with each of your moves.

this is what i am talking about. bonus time is BS. you play with what's given to you. no backsies

Well that was very helpful. What if he didn't have any bonus time?

So why all the whining?  If you don't like it, play games that don't include a time increment.  This is what people are telling you.  There is a setting.  If you end up playing a game with a time increment, you did it by choice.

Because, Nate it is not chess--more like circus of BS.

no it is not by choice. there is no option on the filter to choose time incremented games, it's purely by chance. therefore i'll only play games that i create.

The game list and the seek graph both indicate whether an offered game has a time increment.
