No matter how you pull this off, remeber there's a delay between going between smash and chess. It'll probably take about 5 seconds to a minute to go between playing chess and smash. There are many things you gotta consider when making this kind of event but the most important part is to think about what audience you wanna appeal to.
Generally, most people I know that play chess don't consider blitz games an actual chess game as it leads to people more likely to just do random moves to save time instead of actually checkmating their opponent. May wanna consider using 3+2 as a chess format to deal with the chess portion.
Lastly, the smash part of the game may be the one that may have to be the most edited (assuming you do three sets of three stocks limited to 7 minutes) unless you want a 70 - 30 smash chess ratio and most of your games ending in a smash victory.
Some things you may consider to edit smash to be a bit more like chess boxing:
-changing from three stock to set hp or most
-one smash match but you pause that match and go into chess and switch back as rounds
Hope this helps!
Hello all! I'm helping plan a school esports event for a spirit week, and the event team was looking at setting up a Chess-Boxing event (but replacing the 'Boxing' with 'Super Smash Bros Ultimate' [SSB]). There's a couple logistical issues that we're trying to work out, and I was hoping the chess.com community would have some suggestions.
Each match would likely be minutes 8 minutes, meaning each game has 4 minutes, forcing each player to play a Blitz game with 2 minutes on the clock (which I assume is pretty difficult?). Is this an unreasonable amount of time to play a chess game?
There's also the issue of how to actually switch between games. Is there a way to pause a game on chess.com, so that we could play chess for 1 minute and then switch to SSB? If not, are there any other platforms we could use to do so? Playing it with a physical chessboard seems difficult, since we'd need to find a way to stream from a live video feed (and also figure out how to time people??) but that may be the only option.
Of course, we could just axe the chess portion entirely and leave it as just a SSB event. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated! <3
TLDR: I want to set up a Chess-SSB event and have no clue how. Help?
