Should chess.com have a 'SIGN UP WITH MOBILE NUMBER' feature?

Many sites, like Facebook, have this feature.

Chess.com, however, does not.

Why?

What's wrong with allowing members to sign up via mobile number?

Does Eric believe there is a risk that the creepier members of his mod panel might CALL the people who thus sign up?

As Erik has answered previously, he thinks it would be too much work.

"Too much work"..?

Not much more work than "register via email"...

Or is it?

Do the mods MANUALLY approve the email registrations or something?

In which case, they got very quick reflexes, my registration was approved within seconds.

A very...dedicated bunch, them

The current system requires that the user has registered an email in order to have the account activated. This is handled via an automated confirmation email which the user has to answer.

When you close a mobile phone account, the number is often reassigned to someone else.

I don't think that happens with email. You may lose the password or close the account but it won't be assigned to someone else.

Hogwash. Cock and bull stuff!

All this sounds like a cunningly concoted myth.

The truth is, "what if the mods start DIALLING the numbers registered under?"

Not all of em, but some of em, surely?

There's 10 year olds with mobile phones, these days, ffs.

Of course you do; what if one of the mods CALL YOU UP on the number you registered under?
