He probably opened a new account. His record wasn't stellar or established anyway. He/she will likely forgive you when they read this post.
Chalk it up as a mistake and move on.

Hey Mrbogs. These things happen. I usually email Erik if there's a problem like the one you had because I am never sure about the rules since the staff ocassionally makes changes to improve tournaments. You did the right thing for the right reasons. Maybe the result came out wrong but that was not you intention nor your fault.
Hmm..you did provide him with wrong information, so you should feel bad. (I would) You should have verified your statement before telling him it wouldnt affect his ratings.
NO you should not feel guilty and he should not hold a grudge. You did all you could making it known who would be in the tourney and told him what you considered to be true. He was kind enough to respect you and your decisions but if you were wrong about the rating OH WELL we ll make a boo boo and some are even bigger like mistakes like me for instance. Seep well and dont let it bother you. If he has a problem his account and his rating mean more to him than reading your requirements. I admire you for standing up for your team. Just because his rating slipped and he did not read your requirements if he had been in here verry long he would have known better than to do either or what the conquences would be if he withdrew. He has learned from his mistake as you have from yours. You have no move here he layed down his king.
There was no rating decrease for -The-Checkm8tor- as there were no tournament games with four moves.
The rating decrease came as a result of losing by timing out other games after withdrawing fron the tournament.
I have just started a tournament and it is restricted to players from the UK. Now where my question comes in, is that an American joined, possibly by mistake and the tournament started. I thought it was unfair for this player to continue so I politely asked him to withdraw, telling him that it should'nt affect his rating as he had'nt started any games yet.
He duly obliged and withdrew, but I noticed his rating had tumbled.......oops! I must have gave him the wrong information! I tried to contact this member, but he appears to have closed his account!
Was I wrong to ask him to withdraw? H e did'nt meet the criteria I set down to join the tournament, so was it petty of me to ask him to withdraw? I know I'm wrong to give him the wrong information as maybe I should've checked first, but I told him that because when a player withdraws it does'nt affect your own rating so I thought that it would'nt affect his.
