Should I feel bad for absolutely dunking on a child at chess?

My chess team had their last game of the season and we get matched up against the lowest rated team, okay cool whatever.

My club doesn't tell us who we're playing (just what colour we'll be) I show up with my other three team members and in walks these four little kids, probably about 8 or 9 years old if I had to guess https://vshare.onl/ .

Honestly, I'm always internally shitting my pants when I play a child because I feel like there's no inbetween, either they're going to be a beginner or they are going to absolutely humiliate you. Anyways it turns out this kid was probably just starting out, I could tell fairly quickly because I played a scotch and he played 4... nxd5 5. Qxd5 followed by c5 (usually a beginner kind of move tbh)

Anyways cutting to the chase, part of me wanted to go easy on him but I decided against it and absolutely crushed this kid in like 20 moves and he went away crying to his Mom. I tried shaking his hand and saying good game but he already left by the time I could do that. AITA?

The kid just needs to lose enough times.

No. He went to play, and lost. Sucks to suck. He needs to learn that crying when you lose is not okay. You taught him a lesson. You should feel good for teaching this kid.

Congrats on destroying a 9 year old btw. It’s real fun to do

Not fun, but you have no choice. You'll be destroyed yourself by another kid sooner or later (been there). Just make sure that non chess players don't find out.

It's not fun for the kid, but its good to learn how to lose.

BlueScreenRevenge

Beat them while you can, because in a few years he will be making you cry. happy.png

EndGameEuphoria

nah, the kid kinda had it coming😂

Reminds me of a wrestler back when I was in high school. He was paired up against a girl. He pinned her in seconds, but then was so embarrassed about having to compete against a girl he disappeared.

Sci_Dark

nah, all is well, you played a game, and won, and you even tried to be kind to them, why would you need to know if you were in the right?

My own parents and even my grandparent (father's uncle) destroyed me at chess when I were even younger then that kid. I picked myself up now but I didn't cry ever because of this game but being euphoric someone wants to play with me. Commodore 64 ("64" again) were with cassete tape, once had a catridge with "colossus chess 4" for three days, "load errors" were often to play on the tape. Years without PC, internet, any books on the theme. And then, after completely soul-sucking "Net Chess 5.13" with extremely powerfull mustang engine levels, "Chessmaster 9000" appeared.Years after I played occasionaly but after many years, I rediscovered the game, logged in after 11 years, re-found many other related apps and books and when workplace is demanding, started with blitz instead of rapids, when become extremely demanding I done puzzle rushes. Thanks god, I'm on much easier object several months already.

Should be thrown in jail for emotionally scarring a little rosebud child and psychologically scarring the kid for life, in the jail he will find plenty of team GAMES ready for him this monster

You can cry, but he needs to learn the crying should not be the default reaction to things
