I have never in my life played the French Defence, which is the dullest of all openings.  Should i get this book?  I have no plans of playing the french, just though it might be good enjoyable reading material.

i usually dont hang pieces in the opening, but it sometimes happens.  most commonly i hang pieces in the early middlegame, middlegame, late middlegame, and any part of the endgame or any other phase of the game i missed.  After all these phases in the game have been exausted then i start hanging pieces in the opening.  Thanks for your excellent comment.

"... This book is well beyond the level of most players rated below 1800, but for ambitious players, both those employing the French as black or playing 1 e4 should invest in this book without hesitation." - FM Carsten Hansen (2012)

Not sure that Watson's book would be "enjoyable reading material" for someone who is not going to be playing the French. Perhaps one could try First Steps: The French by Cyrus Lakdawala.

Yes, offer to pay double for the book. You'll score points with the seller.
