Why would you want to?
Should You Be Able To Bet On Matches On Chess.com ?

like a betting thing which you can use to buy time during matches or an extra piece ? like a queen
Sounds like a great idea! In that case after I win a bet I'll play a 1/0 game against the highest rated player who will accept my challenge!

Actually, there's something intriguing in that idea. I doubt it's implementable, but it's a neat thought.

Clarify this:
Are you talking about betting on your own games?
OR
Are you talking about third parties betting on the outcome of other people's games?
Big difference there.

I took it to mean betting on your own game, not for money but rather for advantages (or disadvantages, depending on how the bet goes.)

It could be done with member points:
Use them like a doubling cube in backgammon. If you offer the cube (the bet), your opponent could accept, or decline with no penalty. If your opponent accepts, it has to be time vs material. If one side chooses time, the other gets extra material, to be placed on the board (on his move and as his move) no further than the 4th rank for white, 5th rank for black. The scale would have to be worked out as far as how much t vs m equals in bullet, blitz, etc., since a 30 second addition isn't much in a 15 minute game, but is huge in 1 minute bullet. Maybe something like a percentage of original time vs percentage of starting material. Winner gets the points, loser gives them.

For betting on other games, try Las Vegas--they'll give odds on almost anything.
So you can find a sports book in Vegas to bet on the result of a chess.com blitz game of "TightSnatch87" vs. "PapaPoofter6969"?

something tells me cheating would skyrocket. i wouldn't risk one thin dime. i have a hard enought time winning as it is

i didnt think about did i but think i would be cool
it would be definitely be cool. plus, can you imagine the nasty trolling and trash-talking if money was on the line? people would be getting banned by the minute

It would also be kind of hard to research your bet before making it. You'd have no idea if the players were sober, or playing ten games at once, or playing on their i-Phone while riding the subway, and any number of things you'd want to know before you put your money on the line.

yeah, if only Vegas would get involved. God that would be awesome. Just like the World Poker Championships.
I think so
