chesskid.com says to call the rook the "tower of power".

J. Sillman in "Reasses Your Chess"  calls "  'em " hogs" or "pigs".

But Lew in my user name is short for my last name Lewis, and in the famous Lewis chess set they are not towers at all but berzerker warriors so I'll call 'em "Berzerkers"!

My opponent was not so successful with it. Capturing with the b and g pawns to make way for the rooks is pretty crucial. Remembering not to open them up to attack diagonally is pretty important too lol.

Well, I finally made it through all 134 pages of comments, nearly 3000 of them! Sorry about making so many comments myself (mostly replies to really old ones) but this was a really interesting thread.

I'm impressed by your ability to stick with it. Kudos.

Just stumbled across this, I wasn't even looking for it lol. Apparently they're called "топ" in Bulgarian, and "top" in Croatian, both of which mean cannon. It's nowhere near as common as I thought though.
