^But would you still play a handicapped game if it was bughouse chess? And your opponent could potentially gain an extra queen during the game? lol teehee

Someone did that in Live Chess. Before I knew it was a breach of the Fair Play Policy, I  let my clock tick down to 1 second, then moved. My opponent had abandoned the game, so I won on time😃

Uh, I have to ask this...

Do you or have you played chess on an airplane? Either on the smartphone or with a magnetic travel set? I think I'd get motion sick if I did that. But how cool would it be to discover that your airplane seat mate can play chess too! On my bucket list... play chess on an airplane (but try not to feel dizzy) Tongue Out

I have not, but I am going on a trip soon and I plan to bring my magnetic chess set. For the record, I'll probably be flying on an Embraer 190 😄

akafett

I played against a noobie the other day. I purposely hung a Knight, Bishop and Queen, trying to let the game last. I # him with to Rooks.

Hahaha you're too kind. If you were REALLY kind then you'd have let them win! LOL! (But the kindest thing of all would be to review the game with them.)

Which I certainly do.

One thing I notice, especially with the women noobs. I teach them how the pieces move, I play exactly how Akafett does, only most of the time she ends up mating me first, say the last time last week she got me with a Queen Pawn combo on the back rank. So anyway, whenever I show these particular women how to play, we never see them again. I wonder how this works...Nothing sexist! I just notice it the most in the women that come and go.

It's a good thing, because we can always place bets on the probability of them showing up at the cafe ever again.

Yes same here. I have plans to bring 2 books (on openings), the games I have written down, and my magnetic set I got at the National Book Store in the Philippines. It's going to be a 10 hour flight on a Boeing 777, I believe, so this is one way I'm going to occupy myself.

Isn't being on a 777 occupying enough? 😃 Those Trent 800 engines are massive.

I'd be impressed if the people who create those photos of playing chess on a moving rollercoaster, actually were playing chess on a magnectic board say (rather than just pretending to play on a normal board with the pieces glued on).

noahs_dad

Yes, just like that which is a good one as they have a chessish pose. Don't get me wrong these photos still have their place and can be funny :)

camberfoil

It would be funny to see a picture like that, except with the chess pieces flying off of the glue-free board behind them.

Maybe with a magnetic chessboard or one with velcro?

camberfoil

That would work...

noahs_dad

Real pieces wouldn't be on the board as soon as the starting lift begun, let alone corners etc. I guess it could be dangerous after that too, with the risk of someone getting blinded by a pawn in the eye. Sorry to be so boring and technical about it :)

camberfoil

No, I like technical. I think the shot of the pieces tumbling into the forgetful  wielder's face would be amusing to see.

colinsaul

It looks like that game on the helter skelter is almost over.

How does the chess board even make it through security? That's what I wanna know! (Hey now I'm being "technical" too lol)

Velcro! Ha!

Oh, wait! Look what I found: On the go chess with Velcro

They have something for everything... it kind of ruins the visual appeal of the chess board, imho.

Getting hit in the face by a Knight gives a whole new meaning to the play on words FORK YOU.
