About New Year's Eve... at the party thing I went to, it was very formal so they had a live band in the backyard area. A piano player/singer, drums, and electric guitar I think it was. And at one point that night, they asked me to request a song!!!! So I chose "Stand By Me". That was fun! Hope you all had a nice New Year's Eve too.

Nice song choice! I'm actually on vacation in a hotel where they have a huge (almost life-sized) chess board outside. I played a few games with my family and it was fun.

I don't know whether to interpret that as a sexist comment or not. As for December_TwentyNine, I think it's just that less women are given the opportunities to learn and enjoy chess (which is why there are less female grandmasters, etc.), and the men are expected to learn chess. It's society being inadvertently sexist. Similarly, women don't tend to be as interested in math and science as men for the same reasons.

My comment is absolutely genuine and based on 45 years living with my wife, we all have different interests in life and chess is not on top of the priority games for women and my wife did tell me why and this is another subject as I just wanted to anwswer your question.

BTW one of my friends IRL became a national chess master this week. (He texted me at 3AM!!) I'm so proud of him. I asked him what his next goal is, in terms of chess. He said it was to finish reading the chess books he still has. Lol :) I don't think he'd mind me sharing this anonymously. I thought it was sweet :) And it's quite humbling to know a real chess master. WOWZA!!!
