Isn't it supposed to be two words to distinguish?

"I wanna learn Chess, too, so that I can get smarter."

Epic!

chasm1995

"Why can't all the pieces look like the horsey?"

TheBigDecline

I actually overheard someone saying exactly that, in a totally serious tone. It was confusing and funny at the same time.

EDIT: Not the horsey thing!

chasm1995

"I like the pony."

"Why are the red squares white?"

"Why isn't the lower-right corner red instead of black?"

That is a common misconception some people seem to hold, some of my frnds ask me why i suck at Math even though I play chess and then i have to tell them that there is no relation between the 2 and they dont believe me.Duh.

chasm1995

My calculus teacher is good at chess, but he says it's because of his pattern recognition skills, not his math skills.  Personally, I see no relationship between math and chess, otherwise only the math and science teachers would be better at chess than me. (#1 in most difficult math class school provides)

Are you the only one in your class who plays Chess? I thought in India it's like a national sport or something ...

Not quite. It is popuar in the major cities but I live in a Small town which has only 4 rated players.Nobody except me in my School plays chess. They think it is quite silly to waste your time on a Board game.

"Would you rather play chess, or would you rather make-out with me?"  I don't hear non-chess players saying that enough.

Oh wow, you learn something new every day! When I was still in school, probably half of the students at least knew the basic rules of Chess, even though nobody, and I mean nobody I knew back then played the game actively. When I think back, playing Chess seemed to us as foreign as driving your car naked, lol! Smile

I dunno how it's now, our ways parted since then ... I just returned to the game quite recently, so I don't see a reason why the others couldn't have done the same.

ChessisGood

-I bet you play against the computer a lot. I hear those things are really good!

-So, what are you, a grandmaster?

-How many points do you have? (Referring to a game, not a tournament.)

-Are you good?

-Have you ever played Magnus Carlsen/Gary Kasparov/Bobby Fischer?

-Have you ever played Magnus Kasparov/Bobby Carlsen/Gary Fischer?

-What's your rank?

-Well, I don't know much about chess, but I'm pretty good at checkers!

-I don't really know how to play; I'm not that good at mathy things.

-Do you play White or Black?

-I used to know this guy; he was really good! Every time we played he beat me in 2 moves. CAN YOU DO THAT?!?!?!?!? "Actually, that's not a very good strategy." So that's a no?

-Chess is too violent for me.

-You play chess, huh? You must be really smart!

-I read a chess book once. I bet I can beat you!

-What's your favourite move?

-You must be a real nerd, to like chess.

-Did you win? (After I return from a lesson or a skittles day.)

-Did you win? (After I return from the World Open. Also, people don't seem to think 2nd-10th is any good.)

-I cannot believe it! You got 10th place in the WHOLE COUNTRY!!! THAT'S AMAZING!!! (A few years ago I got 10th place in the u1600 section of the high school championships.)

Real people have asked me all of the above questions, or said all of the above things. Annoying, isn't it?

Exactly, so where did the idea even come from that math and chess are related
