2...cxd4 makes the most sense because, for centuries, White theorists have been trying to figure out the best was to save Whites center (d, e) pawns: giving up the White d-pawn for the Black c-Pawn is theoretically wrong. White has tried the closed Sicilian, the c3 Sicilian, the Rossolimo Sicilian, etc. to avoid losing that d-pawn. Black should take it.
