Sicilian- Best variation?
I like the Closed Sicilian from the white side since white can transpose to the Polarbear setup (Bird Leningrad System), feels offbeat, yet straightforward and consistent.
The opening that got my rating to go up massively was 2...e6 in the Sicilian Defense as Black. A lot of opponents tend to play the same mistakes in the opening, leading me to have a clearly better position right from the start. And even in the event that this does not happen, I still end up with a playable position.
In general, though, I have a preference for the Najdorf due to its deadly nature and being relatively easy to understand, for the most part. It also has a lethal trap as White that helped to draw me in even more, though I sadly haven't had the chance to execute it on anyone as of yet. (And before you yell at me about not relying on traps, please be aware that it's actually sound and doesn't rely on hope chess.)
Najdorf is probably my favorite. I get clobbered in it more often than I win with it, but the challenge is what makes it fun. Tension and tactics brimming all over the place ...
I don't know what it's called or if it is a legit line but around move 5 I go g6, Nf6 and then fianchetto my DSB...So now I'm around move 8 and castle king side sooner or later. The kingside looks exactly like the Pirc and the queen side looks Sicilian. Now all I have to do is go d5 ...
I can't tell you why... 🎶 🎵
