Why do many people play the Sicilian but know little about it?

At your level no one knows anything about any of the openings they play.

I'm not much different though.

Because I dont know anything else.

I suppose it's part of learning the opening. We all began learning to play this game so long ago thanks to adapting to our bumps and stumbles in what was then a foreign enviroment, full of unknowns. Learning the reasoning behind a new opening isn't much different, in that regard.

Why shouldn't they?

Chess is mostly tactics. The besr defence to practice your tactical skills id Sicilian specially Dragon and Najdorf variation. I learn this from a chess coach.

same reason why people play chess and have no knowledge of it

because it is fun

are you suggesting that we should all read up on it and then after reading everybook then to play it.

you get good at something by practicing it every day.
