I suppose it's part of learning the opening. We all began learning to play this game so long ago thanks to adapting to our bumps and stumbles in what was then a foreign enviroment, full of unknowns. Learning the reasoning behind a new opening isn't much different, in that regard.
Chess is mostly tactics. The besr defence to practice your tactical skills id Sicilian specially Dragon and Najdorf variation. I learn this from a chess coach.
