Aronian getting thumped.

fabelhaft

MVL in another tactical slugfest today.

varelse1

Carlsen may be the only player with the black pieces today who doesn't win.

(At least, he doesn't have much advantage yet. But his game's still young.)

fabelhaft

Caruana is still in his prep and probably knows what he is doing, while Aronian's sacrifice looks more and more unintended the longer he is thinking.

Looks bad for MVL though.  Caruana still with an hour and a half and still in his prep.

Aronian missed a bishop sac by Topolov.

fabelhaft

If Aronian had played exd4 immediately he might have considered that his two bishops were compensation enough after e3 and Qxh1, but now it looks as if he just missed the whole thing.

Houdini says Caruana can safely resign here. Komodo and Stockfish only give black a clear advantage.

Unless Fabiano has something just amazing prepped......

fabelhaft

Caruana has obviously not blitzed into a lost position, and has looked much deeper into this than the 10 second eval at Chessbomb though.

fabelhaft

Caruana blitzed also his 17th.

Komodo and Stockfish are begining to lose their former optimism in MLV's position.

Houdini is still convinced, however.

fabelhaft

MVL spent more than 20 minutes each on his last two moves, while Caruana used less than a minute for his last five taken together...

shell_knight

You realize Caruana prepares with computers also... and he gives them more than a minute to think... this is prep, white is fine, and for practical resons black is in a lot of trouble.

fabelhaft

Aronian went for the exchange sac, and his bishops do not look too bad here regardless what the engines say.

varelse1

Engines all like Caruana now.

fabelhaft

After MVL's 17th most engines agree that this is won for white.

The only equal move was Kf8 according to 3 different engines.

fabelhaft

Caruana is on the way to start this with 2/2.

His king doesn't have much safety.
