higher levels have a different standard for when to resign. At my level it seems rather foolish due to the fact that those i'm playing will give me the game back every now and again. Plus as a novice playing through situations is the best thing you can do. Capablanca pulled out victory after victory in what was thought to be lost positions or at least drawn.
If you have a night and your opponent has 2 rooks a queen and both bishops ya give up. Hopefully my point was clear enough. if you're a master or at least rated high teens then ya, resigning makes the most sense in some cases. or if you play your move then realize you've just given them mate or whatever. It's stupid though when someone keeps telling you to resign and that "you're lost and its a waste of time" that usally means they don't know how to finish
Sissies Quit Game Before Checkmate
GM's never are mated. They always resign so are you saying that GM's are sissys?
Yep, that's what he's saying. He's saying that Vishy Anand is a sissy! (He'll probably be kicked out of India for that heresy.)
BTW, I checked a fairly large database for mates between two players greater than 2500. Mates were only allowed a little over 1% of the time.
anyone ever played someone from Oz and they said "guddaymate" when check mating you ? who needs that kind of sarcasm eh ?
This is true! However, while CMYK can render black with cyan, magenta, and yellow, you don't technically need them, since you have key as well.
Yes I am arguing with Dwight Schrute.

The thing is that most GMs have various common endgame patterns of submission memorized. So it's a drag for them.
Most normal players don't and some like me just try to discover them each game.
I'm not against resignations but in general in other games I feel they are overused.
That's just an example of careless playing & doesn't address the OP's question.
I play only long time control games, so it becomes more of an issue. When a game is lost it seems like a waste of time to drag it out. Most adult players appear to feel the same way.
