Skill Level of US Chess Tournaments

How close do US FIDE ratings compare to our ratings on here? I think it would be fun to do a tournament, but I'm around 950-1000 right now daily. Something tells me the average player in a real life tourney would be higher than here and I would just get slaughtered.

It doesn't matter if you think you would get slaughtered.
You should grab hold of your balls and play in the unrated section of a tournament amongst your peers for the valuable experience.

You can play in the unrated section, or if you have really big balls, the Open section for all the marbles.
I made it a practice to play up when I could.

This game isn't for sissies.

So getting back to the question -- how closely to chess.com correlate to US ratings?

But that wasn't the question, u r offtopic!

NO, you don't need to be a member of any chess club!!

Your national federation will want a few dollars onsite.

Man up and pony up.
urk
And 2Q1C, you better hurry up and do this if you hope to be a GM.

Someone get Urk some Xanax.

Shut up, coward.

I don't think GMs like that because it screws up the tie breaks.

Also you really shouldn't obsess over ratings. Just play... But if you must worry about pointless things...

A random crosstable of a random tournament with the typical ratings for your class. You won't be the only low-rated player in your tournament. If you do really good maybe you get some cash.

You might also like to watch the documentary "Brookland Castle" as some of those kids were in the same boat and still had fun.

GMs generally destroy 1900 players in the early rounds of tournaments. But I've only had the fortune of being paired against one.

Oh dear, that's the kind of dumb talking so many people find ashamed in yahoo. Some never learn.

Yeah, it's easy to be a GM. Just keep climbing until you reach the top. Simple! Wink

Why don`t you play? Get up to my level and we`ll play a turn based game.

No thank you.

You have a long, long, long way to go before you have to worry about norms.  Right now, I'd concentrate on finding a local tournament and learning how to play tournament chess.
