I'm a little late to this party.
Let me start off by saying I'm a half decent player at best. I'm still working to get better but I'll be lucky if I ever receive a title.
That said I'm in the 99th percentile on chess.com in bullet, blitz, and rapid.
Most people I play are friendly or don't say anything and we move on with our lives.
Some people are on a whole other level and need therapy.
If the following describes you, stop playing chess and get help. Many of us would like to see the game grow and people like this prevent that from happening.
1) Accusing people of cheating when you lose
I find it amusing and somewhat flattering occasionally but when you keep saying it over and over, it's clear you have a problem.
2) Berating players after you lose.
Yeah, losing isn't always fun but you're destined to lose about half of your games. Grow up.
3) After you've finished all of your games they look through your profile to berate you more specifically.
4) Try to blame you, their internet connection, or some other garbage because they can't take the responsibility for their bad choices in the game.
I'm so tired of it that I almost want to stop playing sometimes.
The best advice I ever received regarding sportsmanship was this:
Whether you win or lose, act like it's happened before and it will happen again.
The world of chess would be far better off if we all lived by that simple philosophy.
99.99% of the human race is a snob about something. Good stuff attract a lot of insecure people.
Mozart fan can be snobs- but I still like Mozart
Beatles fans can be snobs - I still like the Beatles
Half Life fans can be snobs- what a cool video game!
I bet even the Dalai Llama is a snob cos he thinks he's more enlightned than other people.
In my experience Go fans are even more elitist. They love to point out that the number of possible Go games far exceeds chess. Big deal, the number of possible chess games is still far more than humans would ever be able to play
So yes, chess fans can be snobs, but why let a few insecure dorks put you off playing such a great game?
