Enjoying the game is not eough. I've met a lot of people in the park, they are loving chess but unfortunately they are at the same level as 40 years ago.
So if that's how you want to look, listen to the above advice and enjoy the game!
Hey guys, sorry it took me so long to reply, but I've been away. Great suggestions and tfulk - I may just take you up on that offer, but perhaps after I read one of the beginner's books mentioned.
Idiot's Guide seems to be a favourite choice - the other one I've had recommended to me is John Nunn's "Learn Chess".
I might just start with Idiots and if that doesn't help, then I'll try the other I think.
May also try the chess mentor feature on this site - does anybody have exprience with that?
