some Fritz 11 questions

Hi,

I'm a real n00b at chess and I was thinking of getting Fritz 11 to start leaning the game.

I do have some questions and I hope someone here can answer them.

1. Does it have a LAN-Play option ? or in other words can I buy a 2nd copy for my brother and play against him over the local network (I've read it comes with a playchess.com membership for 1 year but that's internet game and not LAN game).

2. Can you play as black ? (I don't even how how important this is but I've been reading some people who complain about this not beeing able in Fritz or they can't find it).

3. Is it good for learning chess or is the engine to powerfull (I think I saw somewhere that people complained it was to difficult).

are there some other things I should know ?

Thanks !

1) I do not know if there is a LAN based option, but if you and your brother both have copies then you can meet at playchess.com and play, or use chess.com live beta version to play against each other.

2) Yes you can play as black.

3) The engine is very powerful, but it can be dumbed down quite a bit, there are several different ways this can be accomplished. So you should be able to find a level that is challenging but not crushing.

Thanks for the answers !

I was hoping to circumvent the internet because that would influence the transfer limit (on the other hand I guess an internet game of chess wouldn't generate to much trafic).

I orderd Fritz 11 (Dutch) from a local retailer, They didn't have it in stock so it might take a few weeks until it arrives here.

Can anybody tell me if it comes with a (good) manual ? I've been looking at some information on their website but there is little to find.

If there is no manual could anyone answer some of the following questions (if there is a manual supplied you could just reply someting like "you can consult the manual for this".

1. Is this a "Multi-Language" version (or in other words will I be able to set the software to work in Enlgish or is the software in Dutch only or maybe the software always in English but the manual if provided is in dutch ?).

2. I read that people use fritz or other tools to analize their games (I guess it's easy to analize a game you played against fritz but how do you analize a game you played on a "normal" chess board against a human player (so there is no PGN file or whatever).

3. to continue a question from above : How do you play as black (against the computer since I've read that setting it to infinite analisis will allow you to do a human vs human game but I'm looking for Human as Black vs. computer as white).

Since I've been reading many people complaining about this I guess it's not that clearly in the manual or in the software to find this ??

And then a generic question : Why would you use a diffrent UCI engine other the the one that comes with Fritz, I've read that Rybak (or something like that) is a better engine (but will most chess players need a better engine).

Or is there a logical reason for this (like every engine could be seen as a diffrent oponent with a diffrent style).

Oh, and would the average user need something like Deep Fritz ? (I guess it only makes the computer play faster since it can calculate it's response faster ?).
