I never read a chess book, have you ever thought of doing some puzzles? Getting yourself familiarized with patterns and tactics is what really helped me out when I was your level.

I've already done a lot of puzzles, I'm moreso looking to improve on positional play rather than tactical play right now (although I would like tactical elements in books)
Tactical play at your level is far more valuable than positional play.

I know and I have spent a majority of my time doing tactics. I want to learn positional play because it is what I feel loses most of my OTB games (a higher rated player than me said that is the weaker part of my game)

Back when I was rated below 1200, books by Fred Reinfeld really helped me get a grasp on applied tactics and simple strategies. People nowadays would probably sneer at his books, but at the time and at my low rating, they were just what I needed.

Actually, I have one of Reinfeld's books, the Complete Chess Course. Got it at $3 at a club I went to. Don't have a problem with the descriptive notation, but I feel the examples are pretty unrelatable and redundant - usually starts off with a regular opening, x does something bad in the game, y punishes it, y makes a brilliant sacrifice, etc. I don't know if that's just my experience but that's how I felt reading that book

Hello everyone,
I'm around 700-800 USCF (1100-1200 here but I don't play much online). Are there any good book recommendations for me? I'm not a complete noob (hanging pieces, blunders, etc.) but I'm pretty weak in the middlegame area. I've read Amateur's Mind and am reading How to Reassess your Chess right now, but almost done, so looking for some book recommendations for my level.
