i'm playing my first game of online chess, turn by turn vs a 1200 player. im unrated at the moment, and he offered me a draw. what does this mean? will i still be unrated? does it count as a win for me? thanks in advance!!!

Press the details tab and it will show you rating changes.

A draw gains points vs a higher rated opponents, loses points against a lower rated opponents. If the opponent is rated the same (or close) or it's an unrated game your rating wont change.

When a draw is accepted it counts as a draw for both players regardless of who offered or accepted it.

If a win is worth 1 point and a loss worth  0 then a draw is worth 1/2 (as in a tournament you may say you scored 5 points out of 8 games, these points are not rating points).

On chess.com you start with a rating of 1200, so you wont be unrated.  However in the beginning your rating will swing wildly to try to correctly place you quickly.  Each game you complete brings you closer to normal rating adjustments (like 5 points for a win instead of 200 for example).

A draw vs a 1200 will gain you rating points if you're rated below them, and lose you rating points if you're rated above them.  A win/loss always gain/lose more points than a draw would.

thank you!!!

Why did you accept the draw? You were a minor and major piece ahead. Usually you only want to accept a draw if there is no way for you to win.

Scottrf

Yeah, you're winning that without much trouble.

No he wasn't. He was ahead, but not by that much.

Scottrf

Well, a minor and major for 2 pawns, which will fall in no time anyway because he has 2 extra pieces.

NO DONT BE SUCH A VAMPIRE IT COUNTS AS A DRAW AGAINST A 1200 PLAYER.
