Why do people play on even if they way behind and know they are losing. I don't get it, Enlighten me please

Have you tried to ask them directly?

It's probably because they know that they still stand a chance. They are not sore losers, they do not have to resign. Once I checkmated my opponent while he had 17 points of advantage

No I thought there might be method behind the madness. I am losing interest in online chess because of this type of behavior

Consider it as an opportunity to punish them harder. Promote 4 queens or something like that

Everyone has the right to play the game till the end. Especially in faster time controls where time might decide the game. And if you are so bad that you cannot convert a winning position to a win, then get better.

And the same can be said about you. Why didn't you resign? You were in a completely losing position.

Resigning doesn’t always mean a sore loser, it just ends the match from a checkmate that can never be stopped. In other words, it is saving both players’ time to play more matches.

If checkmate is inevitable or unescapable, might as well end the match earlier.

Unless sandbagging of course

Oh now I understand you wait until the person blunders after totally being outplayed from the start

My 2 cents if you are being outplayed from the onset and you are material behind don't waist the other persons time. Move on to the next game.
