Main Story It's Topalov vs. Anand!

The World Chess Challenge in Sofia ended in outright victory for local Bulgarian hero Veselin Topalov, who easily - well, on paper anyway - beat U.S. grandmaster Gata Kamsky, 4.5-2.5, to claim the right to a $1 million plus title match later this year with world champion, Vishy Anand.

But the impressive final score for the world no.1, winning with a game to spare, could be more attributed to his rival self-imploding at critical stages in the match rather than his outstanding play - most notably being the seventh and ultimately final game, where, remarkably, Kamsky had a totally won game only to blow it big-time on his comeback.

Check Game of the Day with Gregory Kaidanov to witness the remarkable win missed by Kamsky on move 31 - and also the near fantasy follow-up on move 32 that would have kept the match alive for a final game eight. Also look out on the Chess.FM blog for Macauley Peterson's video reports from Sofia on the match.

As Topalov now prepares for a showdown with Anand, the world champion isn't exactly having it all his own way in Linares, as he seeks an elusive triple-crown of victories at the Spanish supertournament. Russian ace Alexander Grischuk is playing the tournament of his life so far at Linares, as he dominates at the halfway stage a full point ahead of Vassily Ivanchuk and Magnus Carlsen, on 5/7.

Starting on Saturday, ICC Chess.FM will have full coverage of the second half of Linares with Mig Greengard being joined in the commentary booth by Joel Benjamin; with the remaining rounds also seeing Larry Christiansen, Gregory Kaidanov, Ronen Har-Zvi and newcomer to the team, Jonathan Rowson!
