Special abilities of super Gms

And Magnus, himself, said that is not true as recently as last week.
Could you provide a source for that?

Watch the video interview from the conference he was at last week with Danny Rensch (it is on this site).
Hmmm, I've watched it two times already, I remember what mickynj mentioned about what Magnus said, but not what you mentioned... Perhaps I missed it... Maybe I'll watch it again

He is asked what special abilities he has that help him win. He replies he is not a very fast learner, but he has the ability to focus for long periods of time and not lose interest (implying he is able to learn by brute force, so to speak).
During that interview, Magnus also said: "I really don't know myself" and "I don't presume to know much at all."
Anyway, he never refused that he has a remarkable memory, and I don't know why you assume that.

I am guessing you missed the part where he said he is a slow learner and there is nothing special about his memory capabilities.
Oh boy, either you really know how to twist people's words, or you don't grasp what they're saying

The answer is a simple one. One that is not well known but nonetheless true.
Yes, they do possess a special ability. This ability comes in various degrees. Not all, but a great many do posses it. It is a big advantage. Very few who posses it will tell you about it.
It's called a "photographic memory".

Carlsen undoubtedly has a photographic memory. Remember, this term comes with various degrees and levels. Will he admit to it ? Not yet anyway. He describes it as his ability to concentrate, which is true. Telling people you posses a talent, (1 in 100 people do in some manner) is saying you start with an advantage in a game such as chess. Not likely to happen.
Fact is many elite players, and some not so much, posses a photographic memory. I knew a IM who could recall every move of every game he played.

I am guessing you missed the part where he said he is a slow learner and there is nothing special about his memory capabilities.

Yes, please watch it ... and pay attention to his answer to the very first question.
How rude...
