Can you setup a position on Square Off and play against AI, as a training tool? and then afterwards retrieve the PGN for later analysis. I guess this is not still the case, but need to know however. This could be a strong feature.

Not currently but they do add new features often. You can copy the PGN and analyze online games via chess.com or the analyze this app.

Hello,

I just received a replacement unit from Amazon and I'm trying to update the firmware on the chessboard with no luck. I have tried deleting the app on my iOS device and reinstalling and that didn't work. It shouldn't this hard to install software on a device. Both chessboard's had this problem. What is the secret to installing the software? So far, I'm very disappointed with this product. I will give this second unit a couple more days to getting it working or I will send it back. On my first unit the pieces would not move. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Contact support ask the to escalate you problem to management. Three bars in upper left corner swite right click contact us tell them this is the second board with the same issue. I have an Android phone it connects automatically with Bluetooth perhaps an I phone is different. You might also try a different phone. I was having issues when I got my board I had a cell phone that was older. About that same time I got a new phone and had no issues. Is it still moving the pieces wierd?

I agree with Dennis, it is certainly with the phone. I didn’t have any issues yet with installing the software. The procedure is always fast and easy.

Has anyone had an issue with games being aborted with their Square Off board.  I'm trying to figure out if it's just because I'm using an iPhone 4s.  On my first Black game each day, White's first move doesn't come through until the game is already aborted.  I think my account was flagged, because it becomes a lot harder to find games.

I've sent a request to support, but I was sort of dismissed for using an unsupported device.  Has anyone had a similar experience?

Will do.  The support team recommends iPhone's with at least iOS 9 and a larger screen than the 4s.

For the record everything else works great, I didn't have any problems with the hardware.

For anyone buying, I'd consider the Kingdom Set if you've planning on 15+10 games.  It's a little bit quicker at capturing. Check out youtube for a comparison.

Any luck? I use the iOS and have no problem. I use an iPad.

I'll know by this weekend.  I'm thinking about getting an iPad, so this is good to hear.

I bought an used iPad for it off facebook. Spent like $100 on it. Works very well. I can play maybe 3 45|45 minutes games before i have to charge it. Also, it works good for PUBG. Worth it for me lol

sEr234sdf on a new account:

I tried on an iPad and still got the same error.  I contacted the support team and it sounds like this is a unique problem to me.  I'm still testing, but it might be the case that only games with increment are bugged.  The bug is on a fresh restart of the board my first Black game get's aborted, due to never receiving White's first move.  I know this happens on 15+10 games, but it might not on 10 minute games.  Weird.

You have an old I phone which couldn't run your board and you bought an old iPad which must be just as old. Try a new Android or iphone

I agree. You don't have to buy a new phone, just use one to test.

The iPad was a 4th edition, so a little bit newer.  I only have access to a 4s, iPad 4th edition, and an iPhone SE.  The support team was clear that they support iOS 9+ and any device with a larger screen than the 4s.

Anyways, if the problem was with my device then we would see more people with the same issue.  It's such a weird bug, it doesn't show up in 10 minute games, I've seen it in both 15+10 and 30 minute games now.  Here's the video, the quality is pretty low though.

EDIT:  The support team suspects it's a problem with chess.com and not the hardware, but they're still investigating.

Update:

This ended up being a networking issue on my end of things.  For some reason replacing my router fixed the issue.

Great news, I am glad you figured it out. With new users there is usually a learning curve your problems add to the various problems that can occur it is the first time a router was pointed out to be the issue. It was good of you to continue posting to help vindicate the square off board is not always the issue. I hope the square off people are keeping track of all the issues with new users and someday publish a trouble shooting guide for new users. and include it with the unit when they ship it it would help.

On a positive note it is my understanding that square off will soon be releasing timed play on the square off side of the software, this will be a major plus as I have experience a lot of players who just stop moving and leave you hanging when they are losing forcing you to resign to go on and play more games. You then lose points as well as don't get the points for the game that you won.  I am currently experiencing this with a player who owns a square off chess board his user name is Don K I would suggest you not waste your time playing this person on the square off side till the update is released.

I haven't heard that! Excellent news! I usually just play on chess.com 45|45 games because i dont want to get stuck with someone like don k. But of course this hurts me on the leader boards. I think they have me rank around 67 last i check lol

I am at 102 still trying to get back on the top 100. It is a challenge for the moment, though as more experienced players come online with Square off boards people with 1600+ ratings likely will fall off the top 100. Square off support will have to make it top 200 then top 300 etc to keep us lowly rated 1600+ players on the list. lol

Heads up - I have noticed that my live settings for pairing control has been getting reset. (I have mine set for accepting games for -50 so i just have to reset it when i want to play online) Not a big deal just something to remember if you are looking pairing control.
