In India, we have the striped version. Interestingly, we (my neighborhood) never ever had these anytime before but for the past 4-5 years they are seen in good numbers around my house.

Squirrels can't play chess, but are more than capable of stealing and then attempting to eat the pieces, particularly if you have ever visited Chugwater Wyoming, (U.S.A) I know that from experience of staying there and leaving a chess board out side in the garden over night!
