St. Louis Chess Club On YouTube

I have found a great set of chess videos on YouTube. These are very interesting videos on YouTube for all players, beginners, intermediate and advanced. They have available hundreds of videos in playlist format. I have downloaded some of these playlists to my computer so that I can watch them more conveniently whether I am on the internet or not. I have been using a great program,  "Youtube Playlist Downloader," which has a free trial period but if you want to use it for more than 3 days they charge you 10 bucks.

Here's the URL for the videos:

Hi,

yes I've found that channel too, it's great. Good (and often fun) lessons for all levels. I've even been watching the kids videos as they go over the ideas very slowly.

I'm hesitant about using youtube download programs as many of them contain malware but perhaps I'll check it out. Thanks!

Yasser's lectures are just AWESOME!!!

Watch Friedel's lectures on rook endings.  Excellent stuff.

There are a lot of great videos there. It will take me a long time to go over them all! These videos are every bit as good as the videos that people are paying high prices for. One would not think that St. Louis would be such a good chess center but it is!

I've watched several from most of the lecturers.

They're all good - none bad.

Finegold is the funniest - he really keeps the jokes crackin'!

Seirawan, I found, unfortunately bores me to death. He seems like a super nice guy and probably the most 'normal' person of the bunch, but he's so nice it seems saccharine sweet, and he talks too much when he should just get right down to business.

Now Varuzhan Akobian - he's the best on there. He has an accent, but you get over it quick when he gets to the parts of his games where he wants you to guess all the moves he makes from there on out. He paces it perfectly, and chooses extremely instructional games where there is nary a single move wasted or without a clear purpose. You can't help but get better after watching his videos (repeatedly!)

I find Mike Kummer's videos pretty interesting and informative. The only thing I don't like about them is how often they end up taking the piss out of beginners - as though they were never beginners themselves and have never ever made a duff move.

I have been watching some of Akobian's videos and I agree that they are excellent. In fact I was playing a game this morning and remembered a position in one of the games Akobian was analyzing and as a result I won the game.

I don't know the legalities involved in each case, but there are free download programs including browser addons like Video Download Helper or Ant.com Video Downloader, or stand-alone programs like Ninja Download Manager that will automatically download video files from many sites including YouTube. All are easily found by a Google Search or Firefox Addons search.
