maybe show them some eric rosen videos as pretty much everyone goes to him when they hear about the stafford gambit, he is just very knowledgable in the opening and the main person who has popularized it online
That's how they hear about the Stafford lol
The Stafford Gambit is a line in which there are a lot of traps that white can fall for. The Computer says it's +1 for white but many players do the incorrect thing. Many Youtubers like Eric Rosen are talking about this.
Life is too short and it’s not worth playing theoretically winning ruy Lopez 31 move sequences every game. Play unsound chess if you want. As long as you know there are refutations and you don’t expect to win every game.
This is the Stafford. It's not great but obviously tricky. It's awful if you're lower rated but trying to improve
Some of my students have fallen in love with the Stafford Gambit... my understanding is that it's tricky, and might catch an unprepared player off-guard, but if White knows how to handle themselves, it's unsound. But I tell my students that their openings are up to them, and if they keep winning games with the Stafford, I don't mind them playing it.
Thoughts?
