It's relatively easy to train yourself to check that your opponent has a legal move if you're not putting them in Check but it's something players don't do up to 1000 rating.

Yeah, I learned from this and haven't made the same mistake since. I only just recently started getting back into chess and forgot this rule. I'm improving slowly but surely, thanks guys!

So I just played a game I was decisively winning, the game was for all intents and purposes over. I still had plenty of legal moves open to me and all he had left was a king. Is there some rule or set of conditions I as a novice player might not be aware of that caused chess.com to suddenly declare this a stalemate? There is no way he could have possibly won and I had all the tools I needed to win, I still had more than enough time too. So uh... what?
