STalling / abandoning

Have you guys ever had a situation where it feels like someone is just trying to wear the clock down? Play one opening move then leave you waiting for ages. Then another move then wait. They haven't abandonded the game, but seem to want you to abandon it. What's the point?

Yeah @easyleesie, totally been there—and it’s super annoying 😩

Some players do this to try and frustrate you into resigning or abandoning the game, especially in longer time controls. It’s not against the rules to use all their time, but when it's clearly intentional stalling like that, it’s just bad sportsmanship.

If it happens a lot, definitely consider reporting it—Chess.com does review behavior patterns like this, especially if it's repeated across games. And in the meantime, if you're waiting for someone to move and it’s clear they’re stalling, you can just minimise the tab or move on to another game. No need to let it ruin your vibe!

It’s a shame some folks play that way, but luckily, most players just want a good match. You're not alone in being frustrated by it!

This app needs to get rid of the vacation [removed -- MS] I routinely get stuck in months long games because some clown is on vacation. Latest one after one move.

With games that can last months, even without vacation, there are times when members will need vacation.

There have been previous suggestions to allow no vacation challenges/seeks. If anything happens, that is most likely. The site won't remove it completely.

Report it. This is not cool. But whatever, don't abandon the game. Make sure she loses.

If she had a legitimate need to take time off it would have been nice of her to say so/explain and apologize. But catching her playing other games while keeping you and others on hold would make that difficult if not impossible. People are so gaslight-able any more. You handled it well.

I once had a person with no pieces except king just not make a move for the remaining 21 minutes of the game. Eventually I had to go do other stuff and had to resign. (they wouldn't accept a draw)

Did you report that, Danish? That really should not be allowed. That's a win.

I’m in the midst of a player stalling on me right now.

She took a move I wouldn’t myself (hard to say whether it’s part of a plan or a miss or mistake) and immediately went on a month-long vacation from daily games.

Today she was playing blitz and bullet while holding me and dozens of others on pause for what is now 22 days.

Report or not? I don’t have a lot of experience playing real people, only lately. This strikes me as poor sportsmanship at the very least.

You could report for stalling, I believe in the other thread you said you have mate in 1, you could do a conditional move so that once she plays her move, which is probably forced, you automatically play checkmate, so that you can just forget it, and move on with life, in about a month you will get a notification that you won, and beside that it is out of your life.

I’m back.

My opponent’s “vacation” time ran out, but the timer switched from 1 minute to 1 day after the minute ran out.

Is this a glitch or is Chess dot com just playing us? Shouldn’t I be given the win?

Weird, you should have an option saying claim win, or just leave the tab, and you should get it, has it been there a while?

I didn’t even know I could! Definitely the solution I need. Thanks, looking into it now!

your welcome, it will be the squiggly lines crossing eachother.
