Stalling and Quitting Games

I think on Lichess they have a solution. Give them more time. You give them so much time that you are like do you really want to stall. They will resign eventually because who wants to run their clock out for 1 hour

i have reported 500+ people for this. i just play bullet. but in rapid after 2 min it will auto resign. it should be 45 sec auto resign

Keep how it is.  I for one like to use the clock to my advantage when I am playing at a significant disadvantage by hoping  the opponent changes browser tabs and the move with less than a second on the clock.  You would be surprised how often this works!  I have snatched many victories from the jaws of defeat by playing this particular line. Probably increased my rating by about 100-200 points, and adds a nice “real world” element to online chess.

That isn't a genuine strategy that's not you making a comeback either. Whether or not your opponent get's bored of staring at a mate in 2 or something for 5 minutes is no measure of their rating. This is also against to tos, it's not real chess. Also how is this real world, this issue would probably be resolved in irl chess as your opponent would contact the referee and get you penalized for sportsmanship.

Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounds like you are happy to win through means other than chess

Would it be stalling if I continued to play in a losing position. I was in a bullet game and was down a rook. I played on despite this. He won and accused me of stalling and reported me. Is this fair?

glamdring27

Of course not. Stalling is stalling, playing is playing, whatever the position.

Playing classical games and your opponent is stalling.

Pain of waiting

Everyone here claiming that delibirately not making a move in the hopes that your opponent resigns or get's distracted and timesout is a valid tactic are really not playing in the true spirit of chesss. It's really sad to see such attitudes. If you're beaten resign or take the checkmate. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with playing from a losing position, sometimes you can force a stalemate etc. But just doing nothing and allowing the clock to run down is poor form and childish imo.

Absolutely not. Stalemate is a skillful thing to achieve. It's not over until it is over.

I’m a kid but can someone please tell me what stalling means.

Because in the forums the word is used a lot and I don’t even know what it means.

This guy is what the phrase "xiao congmin" or "small cleverness" comes from. It means when you try to make others think you improved by using "clever" methods, but you didn't actually improve at chess.

What prize money, can we win money on chess.com,?

It's when someone is in a losing position and just stops moving, eventually losing on time or by abandonment. Basically, they are trying to punish you for playing better than they did, or punish you for their own stupidity.
When the game ends, be sure to report them. If they get reported enough, they get suspended or banned.

First Move Stalling. Why?

In the last 2 weeks I've had four games where the opponent, White, waits 5-7 minutes before making the first move (in 10-min games).

I asked the first one, "Are you giving me a time handicap?" No reply.

Anyone know the reason for this?

I'm tempted to resign and give them the cheap win. The prize money is the same.

I asked the site and they said I can report them, but I don't know if the intent is bad sport.

I have had this happen many times and wondered, but of course don't know, if it's people checking your old games to see how you've played in that scenario or something similar.
