Stalling in Daily Chess.

I understand your position pretty well. You think that it is bad sportsmanship to play just one move a day because you cannot find a good reason not to play more and get annoyed by people like us. First of all, there are good reasons (some of them pointed in my first post), and second I do not even need any reasons just because you are annoyed by the way I play.

I've been playing dailies for about 20 years, I think I have a better I idea about expectations and etiquette of this chess format.

Lexhibition

@AntiMustard You joined in 2013 and played 39 dailies total.

You see what I did there, I didn't take into account that you could have reset your stats, played on an other site, played mail chess, I didn't consider your age etc.

So please don't make any assumptions about me when saying you have a better idea about the format and etiquette.

JusticeHarmAndPunishment

I am doing that too, on the last minutes mostly...Because I have 400+ games....Because of that.

And yet you want to make assumptions about the reasons people play the way they do and their circumstances and pass judgement about them?

I was trying to find out if there were other reasons for people to max out their time limit, but I still didn't get an answer as to why people only make one move every day.

Trying to find something out by giving options is not assuming outright that people do things this way, hence the questions and this topic. I didn't pass judgement anywhere, I just made my opinion known about questions I have/had. Anyone is free to agree or disagree with it.

It is not true you did not get any answers. People gave you multiple reasons why some play one move a day (or even less often in longer than one day dailies).

But your starting point is wrong to begin with. We do not need to give you any reason to justify the way we play. Correspondence and daily chess have traditionally been a format where you can take your time, where you do not need to rush, where games can last for a long time. Why do we suddenly have to change our approach to this game because of your impatience?

Edit: as for not passing judgement, calling people bad sports is not judgment in your book?

This pretty much sums up the entire thread. Lots of people have given OP reasons why people make only one move per day. OP has decided that those reasons aren't good enough and disregarded them.

In fact, OP answered their own question in the first post, listing off a number of valid reasons why people make only one move per day, and asked for more. However it is quite clear that OP isn't actually interested in the reasons why people play like this, but rather wants to complain loudly about the fact that they do. OP needs to take a step back and revaluate what they had hoped to achieve from posting this topic.

Reasonable Reasons:

1. They forgot about their daily games (can happen)

2. They genuinely are thinking the entire time (very rarely)

3. They are extremely busy (from something) and only had a bit of time at the end of the day (possible)

4. They have a lot of daily games and it takes a while to get to yours

Otherwise

5. They are being annoying and wasting your time

Only a few players out of hundreds of games would be #5 while the rest usually would have reason. (There are probably other reasons out there that I missed as well)

I did get answers yes, but not as to why people do only one move every day, the word everybody skips over here is every. Think about forced moves or positions with only a few options to choose from. The reasons given are good explanations why it can happen sometimes, or even often, but not every day.

Please give me a quote where I call someone a bad sport please.

Every game has rules. Every game has unwritten rules, gentleman's agreements and things that are considered unsportsmanlike. I think one move a day everyday falls into the latter category.

It is getting repetitive. Your expectation that people should make multiple moves a day in a daily game is totally unreasonable. It is completely against the spirit and tradition of correspondence/daily chess.

Lexhibition

Yes, there is that word again, every. I stand by that quote. Is this judgemental? Technically, yes, but it's a deduction more than anything. Am I saying that all people that move once a day frequently are unsportsmanlike, no. Judgement is fine as long as there is a foundation for it.

So why didn't the site make daily chess a one move a day maximum? Online daily chess is not like correspondence chess at all, neither was it intended to.

Except it is, it was pretty much intended to be a more efficient form of correspondence chess (without physical mail overhead). It inherited all its rules and spirit. I was there at the beginning and know it first hand.

So why didn't the site make daily chess a one move a day maximum?

I honestly do not understand what you mean by this question.

Edit: in case you do not believe me about correspondence == daily, maybe you'll believe chess.com:

Every or not, you are calling people bad sports

Lexhibition

Okay, if you think it's bad to call bad sports, bad sports, so be it.

i dont really understand how u can be classified as a bad sport if you are playing at your own pace which is the whole point of daily. Making one move per day is normal and sufficient for a daily game
