Stalling Options?

I've recently been subjected to stalling because of my opponent being basically beaten or in a very bad position. I know I can report them and I have but this seems to be very common and a big problem. Are there any other options? Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Feels like chess.com should have anti-stalling options in place. I don't know how that would be done but it seems necessary.

It looks like you mainly play 30 0 games. I do believe that people who get reported often enough for stalling get put in a special "Unsportsman-like" pool. At least they used to.

Perhaps a shorter time control with an increment would help you find opponents who keep moving.

I have thought about that, but I play 30 0 because I'm normally a slow player and like to have the time. I have not had problems until just recently. Most of my games I finish with 15-20 minutes left on the clock so maybe a 15 minute might be better. Not sure. But the main point of my post is that I wish there were more options to deal with stallers. Just really bad form.

I agree with you. I don't play slow time controls because of the stalling.

Still, I understand that it is hard to have a system that can reliably differentiate between stalling and thinking.

I would imagine with AI getting more advanced there could be some kind of board analysis combined with turn time monitoring that can deduce if there is suspected stalling. Maybe if that gets flagged then the suspected staller could be sent a big warning message in-game. Just an idea. I'll just keep reporting for now!

I mean sure, but being respectful and mature isn't about a board game. But you sound like the type of person that would do what I'm talking about because, hey, it's just a board game right?

Solution..play 5 minute games... can't waste much time

Well you’re not doing yourself any favors by assuming it’s a gentleman’s game….😆🤣. The admins even admit they banned around 10k accounts in just a months time.
If you’re concerned with cheating. Stick with bullet games…only cheating an opponent could do in bullet is manipulate connection and the timer. But it’s not so prominent.

There isn’t much u can do, cuz of what #4 said
Id recommend just playing shorter increments
When I occasionally do play, I only do 10 minute games, cause unless its high stakes (a tournament for instance), I don’t ever need the extra time, and the opponents typically keep things moving

I play 10/0 rapid games. Enough time to think. 30/0 is a lot when you have no idea if your opponent is thinking, sleeping, making coffee or went to the park.

#9 OP was talking about stalling and NOT cheating.

My whole point as #12 pointed out is stalling, not cheating. Not everybody wants to play shorter games. I have definitely used the bathroom, gotten coffee, etc during a game because I had the time, but always during the other players turn and never for very long. I enjoy the longer turns and the ability to think through my moves, but I'm talking about deliberate stalling where it's very clear that's what they are doing. I also only report for obvious cases of stalling. One time a guy was telling me to draw or wait when he was clearly about to lose, another time I made a nasty fork and they just ran the clock out, another time I was one move from mate and they only had one move and they ran the clock out. To me these are obvious cases of stalling. I was bringing this up because it would be nice to have a solution for this type of stalling that is found more often in the longer games because some people do want to enjoy the 30 0 games without the bad behavior.

It could be possible if chess.com knew the address of the player who misbehaves and sent 3-4 tough guys there to explain why stalling is inappropriate
