If you’re new to chess, remember this:
You are not “bad” at chess.
You are just early in your journey.
Every grandmaster once blundered their queen.
Every strong player once forgot how the knight moves.
Every champion once lost… a lot.
Chess is not about being perfect.
It’s about thinking one move deeper than yesterday.
You will hang pieces.
You will miss tactics.
You will get checkmated in 10 moves sometimes.
Good.
Because every mistake is training your brain to see more, calculate better, and stay calm under pressure.
Don’t focus on rating.
Focus on improvement.
Instead of saying:
“I lost.”
Say:
“I learned something.”
Play brave.
Analyze your games.
Try new openings (maybe even the Réti 😉).
And most importantly — enjoy the battle.
One day, someone will look at your rating and think:
“Wow… I wish I was that good.”
