Any disadvantages at starting playing at age 18? Little braincapasity, slownessness or age does not matter?

Age does matter in chess, but you still have time to improve until you are 25

Well I started playing seriously at 27/28, and I somehow managed to improve. In fact I'm still improving now (at 30).

 

Regardless how much or how little you improve, there will always be people both better and worse than you. Main thing is you enjoy playing!
