Stockfish 7 Beta1 vs Komodo 9.3

On Dec. 27th 2015 Stockfish 7 Beta1 was released. Has anyone tested it against Komodo 9.3 to see which one is stronger? I'm hoping Stockfish is better because its free. I don't want to pay $60+ for the best engine. But I really want to have the best engine.

Also, if you want to help the Stockfish developers out, you can volunteer your computer to run chess games for their new code. Theres a tutorial if you search Stockfish Fishtest. Help Stockfish to be the strongest engine so that serious and causal chess players don't need to spend money to buy the best engine!

Stockfish 7 is out and by the looks of it, it will definitely beat Komodo 9.3.

I dont have k9.3 but s7 won against k.9.2 easily(by k9.2 patzer mistake)

but as you know k9.2 is much weaker than k9.3!

Stockfish 7 plays quite differently than Komodo 9.3, which is a good thing.

But why should one care which one is "better"? Every one has its own strengths and weaknesses, which show in different time controls.

Just get the free one, and you'll be fine.

Fishtests and the TCEC competition are not indicative of anything.

I downloaded komodo 9.3 and it,s rating is near to stoickfish 7,s rating but as i saw komodo played better than stockfish while the result was draw (komodo 1win,stockfish 1win and 4 draw).but as playing style, komodo was better and i believe if i would go on matching them together, komodo could win more games.

I used to follow the engines with great interest but somehow I drifted away. Nevertheless, I'm sure my interest will fire up again. (I'm just built that way, one thing than another than another than start over) Anywho, I used to have them play "tournaments" on a strong computer and marvel at the games. Most of the time I "really" couldn't tell WHAT they were doing! Some of the crazy tactics and "tit for tats" were so deep and convoluted. I was partial to Stockfish not only because it was free but because of the collaberative spirit behind it. I remember when people who were "supposed to know" believed a computer would never be world champion...HELLO!

Sometimes these unexpected results are caused by statistical anomaly. It is quite surprising how many games need to be played to actually approach the truth.

Another aspect of the results can come from an "improvement" that actually isn't really a true step forward. In the end though, at those high ELO ratings, does it really even matter? I mean, either version of Komodo is going to smoke everyone, computer or person with the exception of Stockfish.

I agree with M9cr0s. When you get up to engines that strong, it doesn't matter too much. Any of the top ones can be used as a learning tool, so might as well go with the free one if you're going to use one.
