Sure, nobody wants to encourage kids to go around cussin' like a sailor...but at the same time, I hardly think too many kids are gonna be shocked by such outpourings (just listen around you at recess).

You missed my point. I'd like to recommend this site to my elementary students so they can visit what is probably the best chess education web site. His profanity will make that impossible. There are plenty of forums where you can talk as you please. This is a chess site! What he is doing makes no sense in the context of what this site is all about. Where is the moderator?

Please ban turtleslayer. It's simple.

I belong to many gaming sites where they are able to maintain a G rating. There are private forums on some of those sites that are locked and only for adults. I'm not asking for everyone here to be a saint. Perhaps provide a locked site for adults who wish to dabble in political incorrectness. It can be quite funny. I belong to one...and the only rule is...no personal attacks. Profanity and many other things are permitted.

Granted, the little goof is comin' on like gangbusters.  But two points:

To me there is nothing more noxious than "political correctness."  I have gotten so tired of that suffocating McCarthyistic praise over the years that I could puke just from the sound of it.

Also, as a onetime elementary school student I can attest that there are few obscenities we didn't know, or spout (even if we hardly understood what some of them meant at the time).  Sure, nobody wants to encourage kids to go around cussin' like a sailor...but at the same time, I hardly think too many kids are gonna be shocked by such outpourings (just listen around you at recess).

finally, someone with common sense. This site is full of people fainting like prancers at what, to all extents and purposes, is normal language.

tell me, who decides what is an offensive word ? 'humbug' was incredibly offensive in the 18th century, as was ' balderdash'. these are arbritrarily enforced social rules; when it boils down to it, how can a vibration of the air, a frequency, a maniuplation of the vocal chords be deemed offensive, and where is the consensus on this? around the middle of the nineties, the word 'bitch' was allowed to be aired pre-watershed and is still allowed- when did that word stop being offensive?. I don't know about you, but if someone calls me a '***** paki'( has happened to me once or twice) i am a lot less offended than if someone where to accuse me of being ingenuine, or two-faced. These are just examples.

and about the royal family;

try 'unelected freeloading relics'.

I think today is exceptional circumstances for Chess.com, give them a chance although I know where you're coming from.

I already reported turtleslayer. That is totally offensive, please everyone also report him too. There is no excuse for a person like that to be on this site.

DanielleSurferGirl

Thank goodness, they removed all his posts and probably banned him.

There's a big difference between good clean fun, and someone using VERY offensive language on a family site.

tarikhk

danielle; did the naughty words give you a sad face? awww, pwecious.

p.s. booo!

im bored now. no live chess. no turtle.

Turtles have feelings too.

I agree with Musikamole. This site is trying to be the premier site for CHESS. They want it to be family friendly. I recommend this site to the kids I tuter, but it's frustrating to know that kids on this site will be subjected from time to time with obscenities that should not be on a family site. Please use common sense here as there are children here to, trying to learn & play chess.

NinjaBear

Honestly, I haven't noticed any difference (good thing). Were the bugs fixed already?

we tries to tuter 'em good

There's no room for idiots like that on a chess site.

It's quite disturbing that one may find entertainment in vulgar language...

you're boring as well.

no one has used 'one' as a pronoun substitute since the 19th century; not even posh people. 'one' might even say that it is pretentious to do so.

actually, all this talk of 'vulgar language' and 'one' does make you seem a bit like a Jane Austen character; fainting at poor diction and the mention of genitalia.

anyway, it was the mindlessness of it all that was funny anyway. lighten up, the air is much fresher down here, away from that pedestal you're enjoying so much.

Jeez, tell that to the ancient Romans (whose literature is filled with "vulgar language" [indeed, that's the source of the word "vulgar"]).  And then there's Shakespeare and his many bawdy puns ("country matters," for example).

chaucer might have something to say about it as well. 'queynte', which cropped up once or twice in the canterbury tales, is the middle english word for a much ruder modern word which would risk my being banned if I were to mention.  You can probably figure it out ,cant you?

were you raised in a catholic commune or something? kids swear. pretty much all of them. I assure you this is true in 90% of communities in the world, based on a study I made up in my head. Luckily, my head is a reliable source. I think.
