I know it's very hard to follow BOTH advices at the same time, but if you choose just one and follow it, your rating will improve dramatically! 

I was a beginner and now I'm an intermediate player, so what I did I followed and chose my SECOND advice and my rating improved drastically !

2000+ is intermediate? I am a strong believer that if someone rated 500 follows those two advices he will be 1000+ in less than two months for sure. It only takes 30 seconds to look at the board and see wheter or not something can be safely put there or can you capture anything for free. Simple as that. It takes another minute to look for all basic tactics and wheter or not they work.

He is 300 points higher than you be quiet

@RahulYeager everybody is good at something, you also have strong players but chess is part of their education system.

Yes in our local chess club we have special day for "noobs" on Sundays only. Players allowed, who's rating below 2300 ONLY ! (it's just our local ratings not FIDE or anything like that) to give you comparison many titled players go on Sunday even some IM's and my rating there just 2200 hundred! So I'm not even top player from noobs club lol
