You've only been a member for a couple weeks! This being a new year has nothing to do with anything. If you don't want to renew year after year, just don't have it set on auto renew. Besides, I heard getting long in the tooth is a good reason to play chess. It keeps your mind sharp. Supposedly.

You can cancel premium membership on the same day you renew as I do.
