A pictorial representation of a sandbag (left) and uses (right).

If you don't still get it. How come you play chess?

Avatar of cabbagecrates

You can report people for sandbagging. I've done it a few times and it usually works.  And don't play unrated games.

Alternatively, just resign and play another game.  Most people aren't sandbaggers.  It's amazing how important a little number on the internet can seem, but it isn't really you know.

Once I played a bullet game with a 100-rated player and lost. Fairly? Not really I hope. Laughing

Can one even get to 100?!

Avatar of MSC157

Intentionally, yes.

Avatar of MuhammadAreez10

I know a Norwegian who was once rated 1000.

Unintentionally!

I was kinda wondering what the opposite of sandbagging could be..? Undecided

Like having a rating way higher than your skill.!

To bribe opponents.

I was just thinking about that with NewArdweaden. We concluded it cannot be done without a help of any other players that are willing to "donate" you rating points.

If you play against weaker player and you beat him over and over again, you deserve the gain of the rating you get. If the chance you beat him in one game is 95%, you should score 95-5 in a 100-game match. If you exceed that number, you're better than your rating suggests. :)

It's easy to avoid. Just play rated games, that way your rating and usually the rating of your opponents more or less reflects your actual strength. If you just play unrated you risk being just like them if your play improves.

But I wouldn't allow it to happen. I would always play some rated games so that my rating would increase. But as of now I prefer rated anyway, unrated has proven very stressful

Avatar of IMpatzer

I knew a guy once who could beat 1800 up to 2300

Easily all the time. But yet his true rating was only

1200 . By you stated facts here this would be indictive of great sandbagging. However it was determined he merely had multiple personaliys

One day joe would play then harry, bill etc

I hope they bought it.

Avatar of alessandropicone

So he had personalities who were almost GMs and personalities who plaid chess almost as bad as me? ROFLMAO Laughing

Guys i just want to know if sandbagging is a SIN ?

Avatar of alessandropicone

Yes, sandbaggers will burn in Hell for eternity Tongue Out

(Unless of course I ask God to have mercy on them)

Avatar of Bonny-Rotten

Call me thick, but when someone with a big otb rating starts bashing noobs in tournaments with a false chess.com rating is hardly much different to sandbagging.

Having said that, chess is kinda plonky anyways.

But because of these morons I can't. I stand no chance of winningagainst somebody whose rating should be twice as high as mine.

Bunch of losers, play with your true rating!

Regardless of a persons Elo or chess experience you can always use psychology to destroy them... even a 6 year old could crush Magnus if she used correct psychology. This is a simple fact of science.

Perhaps get your psychology up ... focus more on that aspect rather than Elo.

I'm currently in a game right now with a guy who is crushing me, and I find it annoying ... I sent him a private msg using a brilliant psychologically deflating attack. I basically screwed his head to mush.

it feels wrong, but "Judge not least ye be judged" isn't it ?

or "smite thy enemy less ye be smited." its all the same stuff in the fridge imo.

people might have opposing opinions on the psychology of chess, but their opinions don't matter do they ?

Its like they said in WW2. Who ever wins the war is right and a hero, isn't it funny that the ones who lose are always the bad guy ?

I'm going to do coaching on this aspect of chess soon ... save up for it, I will make you a chess boss.

I have read something about using psychology in chess, but it doen't seem to work very well. For instance offering a draw when you have a clear disadvantage should unfocus your opponent. But it doesn't work either way.

Certainly psychology doesn't work with me, as I am a counsellor.

When I am tired though...
