Strange...

The very strange...
So friends and I are laying around drinking and stuff this fine night, and of course, I'm curled up on the floor next to my computer the whole time, with quite a few windows open. This was the environment that a request upsurged: "Shar, upload some of the crazy videos you've been playing for us all day!"
"I can't, it has to have some chess related content."
"Add some!"
"Like what?"
"Just say something about how it relates to chess, or something. Make some joke or something about chess, or the forums there."

So that was it. I just used the actual conversation that took place above, as the chess relation! So here's a couple of strange things we've heard and watched today. If anyone ever reads this post or watches/listens to these things, feel free to add whatever strange thing you want.Laughing

It will take me a few minutes to post the next strange thing, because I have to get a drink!

An old woman, file photo

The oldest Iranian woman has passed away at the age of 145 in a village near Toyserkan in western province of Hamedan.

Born in Ja'farieh village in 1865, Tajma Aghasi had never married, Fars news agency reported on Sunday.

If she were alive, she would well remember a considerable part of Iran's contemporary history.

According to the World Health Organization, life expectancy in Iran is around 72, but many Iranians residing in rural areas, like Tajma, live a healthy and happy life for more than hundred years.

A recent study by researchers in the US Albert Einstein College of Medicine revealed a link between living to 100 and inheriting a hyperactive version of an enzyme that prevents cells from ageing.

They found most of the centenarians under study and their children had higher levels of telomerase which protects the DNA.

They say it may be possible to produce drugs that stimulate the enzyme.

Isn't lawrence taylor up on rape charges?  A suspected rapist telling me not to smoke crack really warms my heart and brings a small, single tear to my eye.

Ya, just shows how weak minded most people are.  I would always give the right answer, I would just think the others are idiots!

In another video it says that people are more willing to conform when the subject/group is of interest to them.  I thought the same thing you did at first, but the test shows that you would be very unlikely to actually show 100% non-conformity.  If it were a bunch of strangers and a random line test, sure I might just answer correctly all the time and laugh at the others -- but in a real situation with peers it's shown to be different even if you don't like that idea about yourself heh.

Unless of course you were always on guard -- which you can't be all the time Tongue out  It's just an interesting thing to find out about oneself without actually having to go through the test in person... is the way I thought of it.  Conformity also helps out such as social norms like standing in line without having to challenge and re-think everything every time (as another video points out) it's just that there's a bad side to it too.

As I've gotten older I've become more aware of what I am thinking, choosing and doing. As one learns, I believe, then individualism is more understandable and appreciated. I don't know how I would've done in the Asch conformity experiments 15 years ago. But today I doubt having any problem with choosing against peers. I think the experiments show a lack of mature thought in individuals.Smile

Wrong, I'm not a conformist.  I don't follow the crowd at all.  And I'm not on guard either.  I just always call things as I see them.  In school, I would be quick to point out when the teacher was wrong.  Tests don't cover every individual, I am pretty unique.  Only have to look at some of my postings here to see.  Especially in the cheating forum group.

Everyone I talk to is "pretty unique" and "never goes with the crowd", they always "speak up what's on their minds".

I've never listened anyone say "hey, I'm a crowd guy". I wonder where I can find all those people.

Some of your political posts are pretty standard anti-establishment stuff that doens't sound too different of other anti-establishment people. That happens with pro-establishment folks too.

I'd guess that if each individual would take their anti- or pro-establishment conclusions by their own individual reasoning, they wouldn't all sound so similar to each other.

If the "establishment" is as easy to negate as being anti-murder, theft, lies, etc., then it's not really a test at all of one's individuality.

OK, some wierd Jewish girl drew swastikas on a dry erase board. What's your point? This isn't your first reference to the Jewish people in the last week, and none have been positive. This could be interpreted as your attempt to imply that anti-semitic acts are staged by Jewish people in order to gain the empathy of the public. A couple of days ago it was your laughable attempt to assert that the Jewish culture is only 100 years old. Please keep your bile to yourself. Your political and ethnic biases have no place in these forums.

You are OVER-REACTING, electricpawn. I thought the girl's act was bizarre. And I did state my opinion on jewish culture, what's the problem? I don't believe any religion. What is your ridiculous problem?Laughing

When one member of a certain race does something truly stupid or criminal, the whole race can't be held accountable.

What "race" are you talking about? And what's the reason for this comment?
